Do I need to create an account with you?
Giftwhale works best for you if you have your own personal account. However, you don't have to have an account if you just want to reserve an item on someone else's wish list. However there are a number of advantages to having an account - see the next FAQ.
What is the advantage of creating an account?
By creating an account you give yourself the full functionality that Giftwhale offers. That means:
You can create and share your own wish lists for any occasion
You can connect with friends and family who also have accounts, meaning when you will all be automatically informed when a wish list is shared.
You have full functionality when you reserve items on someone's list. This amounts to being able to amend or unreserve your gift reservation by simply logging into your account, as well as the reserved item being linked with you rather than an anonymous user.
How do I create an account?
To create an account simply go to www.giftwhale.com and click 'Register'. The only information needed is your name, email and password.
I've forgotten my password
If you can't remember your password there is a 'Forgot your password' link at the bottom of the sign-in buttons. This sends a password reset link to your registered email.
How can I add a profile picture?
When you are logged into your account, go to the 'Settings' link which will take you to your account settings. There you can update your personal details, including adding a picture to your profile.
How do I log out of Giftwhale
To log out of your Giftwhale account click the 'Log out' button that will (depending on your device and screen size) either be at the top-right of the screen or accessible by expanding the menu icon at the top-right.
How do I delete my account?
Deleting your account will remove all data associated with your account. This action is non-reversible.
To delete your account you need to do the following:
Go to your settings page
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Delete account button
Read the next page to ensure you're happy losing the data outlined on the page.
Click Delete account and all data.
Your data and account will now be removed, and you will be redirected to the homepage.
How do I search for friends?
If you're not registered or logged in: Visit our find a friend page and you can search all the users on Giftwhale to find friends and family.
If you are logged in to Giftwhale: Visit your friends page where you can find friends and family, and easily request to be their friend.
Does a friend get notified if I de-friend them?
No, your (ex)friend on Giftwhale will not receive a notification that you have de-friended them. They will no longer be able to view the wish lists you have shared with your Giftwhale friends.
What is Giftwhale?
Giftwhale is a wish list-sharing service that allows you to create wish lists and share them instantly with friends and family. You can use it to create and share wish lists for yourself or for others (e.g. children).

Giftwhale allows you to create a wish list for any occasion and add gifts from any online store or high street shop. More importantly, it is all completely free, designed to be a hassle-free, time-saving addition that hopefully works as well for you as it has for our family.
How much does Giftwhale cost?
Giftwhale is completely free to use. Add as many wish lists and items as you like.
How does Giftwhale make money?
When you click a link on Giftwhale and visit a product page on an online store, the online store will sometimes pay Giftwhale a commission if that product is purchased within a certain time frame. This process is known as affiliate marketing and is the main source of Giftwhale's revenue.
You never pay anymore for a product by purchasing it through a link on Giftwhale.
Giftwhale never sells your information or any of the data created or stored by our users.
Products you see throughout Giftwhale are never promoted or highlighted in any way to encourage a purchase over another product, for example, that may not earn a commission.
We don't currently show any advertising to users and have no plans to introduce this.
How do I use Giftwhale on my computer?
Go to www.giftwhale.com using your preferred browser, from where you can either create an account or log in if you already have an account.
How do I use Giftwhale on my phone or tablet?
Giftwhale has been designed so that it is responsive to whatever type and size of the device you are using. As with using it on a computer, simply head to www.giftwhale.com using your preferred browser, from where you can either create an account or log in if you already have an account.
Do you have any open career positions?
At present there are no openings. We will list anything here if and when they become available. All our future jobs will be listed on the Jooble career portal.
How do I cancel a reservation
You can cancel a reservation in a few different ways.
You have a Giftwhale account
If you have a Giftwhale account, head over to your reservations page where you can see everything you've reserved. Click Change reservation and you can set the amount you want to reserve to 0 and click save to remove your reservation.
You don't have a Giftwhale account
If you don't have a Giftwhale account and you reserved the item via your email address you can request a link to view or edit any of your reservations
How do I pay for my reservation
Giftwhale only manages the wish list, Giftwhale doesn't deal with the purchasing or ordering of gifts. You'll need to purchase the gift as you would any other purchase, either online or in a shop. If the wish list owner has put a link to the item you can use that to take you directly to the item to make the purchase.
How can I create a wish list?
To create a new wish list, log in to your account and either click ‘Create a wish list’ on the home page or go to the Wish List screen and click ‘+New wish list’ in the top-right of the wish list panel. Both of those actions will take you to the ‘Wish list settings’ page where you can create and customise your wish list for any occasion. After creating your wish list it is available for you to add items to it and it is only visible to you until the time you choose to share it.
How do I tell other people I'm buying this item?
To mark an item as reserved by you, just press the Reserve button on the item you want to get. If you've got an account, this is all you need to do. If you don't have an account you'll need to confirm the reservation via your email. Once confirmed the reservation will be displayed to everyone viewing the list that this item is no longer available.
How can I add an item to a wish list?
To add an item to a wish list select the wish list either through the Dashboard or through the wish lists page. This takes you to the actual wish list where you can click the ‘+New Item’ button in the top right to add an item.
Can I add an item to an existing wish list?
Simply go to your wish list page which will show you all your future wish lists by default. Select the wish list you want to add an item to and click on it. This will open up the wish list and you can add an item by clicking the ‘+New Item’ button.
What information do I need to add an item to a wish list?
To add an item to a wish list it is simplest to have a link for the item. Simply add the link into the first box and click ‘Fetch’. Giftwhale will then use the link to auto-populate as much item information as possible, including getting the price and a description, as well as trying to add a picture of the item. If you want to change any of the information you can simply edit the text or picture you want to change.
If not all the information is automatically populated from the link or you don’t have a link for the item (e.g. it is something you have seen on the high street) simply add your own text and picture.
Once all the item information you want is populated click ‘Create Item’ to add the item to your wish list.
What happens to my wish list after the event date?
Once the event date for the wish list has passed the event moves into your previous wish list area and from here you can do any of the following actions:
Give the wish list a new date and it'll move back into your active wish lists.
Mark any of the items as received, and this will show you who got the item for you. You can duplicate received items and copy them onto a new wish list if desired.
Move any of the unreceived items onto another wish list.
Where has my old wish list gone?
To view any previous wish list, go to the wish list page and change the ‘Show’ option from ‘upcoming’ to ‘previous’. You can now see all your old wish lists and clicking on one will open it.
